About

Here, I take a practical look at what it takes to get by as a web designer/developer these days. I’ll try to focus on many aspects of publishing on the web today, namely: Design, Development, User Experience, Accessibility and Marketing. I also plan on keeping things light and relevant.

While this site is mainly for people with some experience in designing/developing websites, I’m sure that people at all skill levels will take something away with them (at least that is my hope anyway). I want this to be a learning experience for myself and for anyone that cares to visit.

I’m pretty new to the blogosphere and I welcome good, honest suggestions for how to improve the site and content to help everyone. If you have a topic you want to discuss, you’re welcome to send me an email. Unfortunately, I have little patience with people who want me to put up unrelated links and ads (thanks, but no thanks) and with people who just want me to do their work for them. Other than that, I welcome your suggestions.

About Me

Victor's PhotoI’m Victor Aponte and I’ve been a web designer for the last 8 years. I’ve worked freelance for most of that time and am now a web developer over at the 3-C Institute for Social Development in Cary, North Carolina. I also spent the last 7 years as an instructor and instructional designer for web design/development at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Why A Thin Layer of BS

My friends thought it was a little strange of me to use this name, but I thought it was kind of appropriate. The name comes gap between the “theoretical” web and the practical web. ’Nuff said.
